Natural alternatives for children with sleep issues?

My 6 year old son has AS and we have recently had to make a decision about giving him something to help him sleep. He has become increasingly agitated at school and often chases me out of the school gate crying for me not to leave. He has been distracted in class but otherwise is okay. It has been very distressing for everyone and we believe it is his lack of restful sleep. My question is that there are a lot of chemical/hormone sleep aids for children with AS but has anyone tried new diets or other more natural and non-habit forming methods?

have you tried a lavender bath in the evening? or a lavender scented body lotion? Some people swear by it, and I know it's helped a lot of moms. Also chamomile maybe if he'll try tea? Warm milk is also something you can see if he'll try. Personally trying to get me to drink anything warm ever was like trying to force poison down my throat but I know a lot of people drink coffee and tea so some people must like it :) Good luck!
