Need help teaching my child to write - can already read well

Whenever I look up advice for how to teach my son to write it comes up with printing for young children. I need some advice on how to teach him to write in simple sentences and get the sounds onto paper.

He can read very well, like chapter books, but finds simple sentences in writing very difficult. We go over simple spelling tests and sentences but I was hoping someone could give me some better advice on what to do. When I try to get him to do writing prompts he finds it very difficult or just spells jibberish.

He's so smart and can already read I just need some advice on what else to do. I don't have the money for a tutor and nothing seems to be working.

Since he is reading chapter books I am guessing that he is in mid grade school. I think the whole reading but not writing is called dysgraphia so you might google that. Also have him evaluated by your pediatrician because you should be able to get free help through the school if he is diagnosed.
