I am havign a very difficult time potty training my 3 1/2 year old. He refuses to all efforts. He cries when we sit him on the potty, yet refuses to try it standing up. He will run and hide to poop but won't tell us he needs to go so we can sit him on the potty. Any ideas..........

You can get books from the library written for kids his age that feature kids his age learning to use the pot. It would help if he could watch others.

Sticker charts are great! He gets a sticker to put on his chart each time he tries ... maybe two stickers if he goes.

If the weather is warm where you are at, take him out of diapers and let him run naked. He won't like the pee on his leg.

We're working on our 2.5 year old son right now, but our daughter hit a roadblock with not wanting to poop in the potty. I gave her fair warning (about 1 box) that the store wasn't making her size diapers anymore for daytime, so she would have to use the potty during the day and only wear diapers at night to ration them. I couldn't believe it actually worked. The next day, she asked if the store ran out yet. When I said not yet, she said "ok, I want my princess underpants today and this {diaper} for tonight."

I guess it's worth a shot, but maybe give him more warning than one box.

Take him in there every hour and tell him to try and potty if he will sit on the potty then let him read a book and it will relax him enough that he can go, if he will stand up then put a cheero cereal in there and tell him to shoot it when he goes pee I know it sounds dumb but my mom did it with my little brother and it helped make a big deal when he goes in the toilet, give him little rewards when he goes in the toilet such as a sticker on a poster board for every time he goes in the toilet he gets one sticker for going pee and two for pooping in the toilet, the big potty may scare him try getting him a potty chair or one of those toilet seats which makes the hole smaller so he doesnt feel like he is going to fall in, I hope this helped I know it worked for my mom when she was trying to potty train my little brother.
