Have a family bar-b-que. Whats going to matter to the baby is seeing the pictures later that you cared enough to do something.

3 kids later all the 1st - 2nd birthdays the babies never cared who was there. just that there was stuff to play with. Around 3 they enjoyed having kids their size to play with.

A bar-b-que in November is fun. Cook outside, serve inside. Unless your weather is horrible, then you can still cook burgers/ribs inside.

Decorate the dining table for babys' 1st birthday and take lots of pictures of the child with all the guests.

I always get a picture of the child with each guest and send copies of birthday pictures to the parents/guests with my "thank you." Its easy and cheap 3 or 4 pictures per guest @15cents each - costs about as much as a pack of nice thank you cards.

My daughter was born on Nov 27th, We kept her first birthday small, We really wanted to have a big party is there however the reality is she was to small to remember it. So it would be more for me and her dad then her. So we decided family and close friends.

We had it at home another reason for keeping it small since the clean up would be bigger the more people that came over. It was cake ice cream presents and some games.

We figure we will do the big big parties on the other milestone birthdays that she can actually enjoy and remember.

My daughter will be turning 1 in Dec. I have been wondering the same thing. I think we are gonna keep it simple but I am totally doing a theme and having lots of family over. Scheduling it around her naps and feeding I think will be key to making things run smoother.
One thing my friend did was have a cake for the adults and a little cake that she let her baby play with. They sat him down on the floor on a plastic table cloth and just let him play in the cake it was so fun, all while the adults were eating their cake and just enjoying watching him.
Best of luck to you, no matter what you do I am sure it will be the best 1st b-day ever!

My son's birthday is November 21st, and at that age they can't handle too much action before needing a nap. His birthday party was GREAT! We did it indoors, he had a prince theme with his little crown on his head, I got him a TON of balloons that he carried around the entire time. It went very good, everyone had fun and it was just long enough because he ended up taking a nap on the way home from his grandparents.

My daughter will be 2 in January so an outside party is out of the question. But depending on if your childs birthday is in the beginning or end of November you might could have a fun outdoor party at a park or something. We actually had our party in our church fellowship hall. We only invited family and a couple friends but we both come from big families and so there was still a crowd! In my opinion every birthday is special and should be celebrated as big as possible! I know some people do a big 1st birthday party and then smaller parties after that. I think due to the size of our families ours are always going to be big so I might as well do them up big! Good luck and I hope your party goes well!
