I recently went through a divorce. I was with my highschool sweetheart for 10 years and had two beautiful boys from the relationship. He was the only man I was ever with. I went on my first date in 10 years on thursday and had unprotected sex then the next day I was hanging out with a long time friend and had unprotected sex. I have been on nuvaring since last month, I followed directions and put my new ring in on the first of May. I noticed after the second night of intercourse my ring was on the floor 4-5 hours after. I did not put it back in because it was more than three hours and my insurance only allows one ring per month. I am now worried I could become pregnant because I have heard sperm can live for 3-4 days. My other concern is if I were to become pregnant would it be from the second night because I had the ring in on the first so it would have killed the sperm correct? I really don't want to be one of those women who gets pregnant and doesn't know who the dad is.

Nuvaring is hormonal birth control... it does not kill sperm. Leaving it out longer than 32 hours does not destroy the ring... it is more comparable to missing a pill. Im sorry to say it, but were you to become pregnant... the only way of knowing would be a dna test after birth. However, there is some protection, if limited, from having used it within the same cycle. It is not too late to take plan B, and putting the ring back in should offer more protection- be sure to wash it with cool water.
