Obsession or Innocent???

We have a 3yr old boy whos recently realized the magic he has with his God given boy parts:) All is well and good but when is it too much?? Obviously he is proud of this new found "trick" but I am concerned...Never being raised with boys and him being my first boy(2ndChild) I'm just wanting to address this properly to better prepare him for real life. My husband insists Im overreacting but I I want to raise a gentleman! p.s. Main concern is the fact that his sisters Barbie dolls are sometimes involved...I will find him hiding with them stuffed down his pants...

Like others have said just let him know that it's something to do in private and touching other peoples things is a no no. Mines not even 2 yet and here lately I've looked down when he's taking a bath and he's rubbing his bath toys on himself with a big grin. I just say I'll give him a minute and step into the hallway. I don't want him to think it's wrong but it don't feel right for me to just sit there while he does it either so I figure it's the best solution for now.

It's totally normal. Just tell him that this sort of thing is for private time, in his room with no one watching, like maybe at night time or nap time?

I agree with Kate! Normal and have a laugh too because it is funny!

He will soon realize how to keep private things private so just repeat the privacy rules but don't make him ashamed, you don't need to give him negative associations with his body. :)

Okay, the Barbies stuffed down his britches has me giggling, sorry.

Anyway, yes, it's normal. You may notice that even as adults men are fascinated with their penis. Whenever you catch him playing with it just tell him that's something to do in private. Also teach him that shoving things down his pants is not good because

a) if it's not his it's not nice to do to other people's things

b) he could seriously hurt himself.

But, yes. Totally normal. :)

Thanks Kate, the barbie thing just seems weird to me...I told him to stay in his room alone to practice his big winkie tricks haha and his sisters toys stay in her room! Glad to give ya a chuckle :) Have a great day
