My gorgeous little 2 year old had an allergic reaction to peanut butter when he was about 15 months old. He first got hives that went away and then2 hours later he got a full body rash and swollen ears. Rushed to the hospital to receive anti-histimines and all was fine. Went to an allergy specialist and organised blood tests, but no allergies to peanuts came up. We do carry our necessary medications and such, but I was wondering if any other mums have had the same issues and weather he is actually allergic or not??? Thank you x

My 6 year old is allergic to peanuts. She was tested when she was 4 yrs old. We also had the allergy test done. She had 8 different drops placed on her arm and then the doctor poked with a small needle each liquid that was dropped on her arm. Two small welts formed on her arm... one was peanuts and the other dust bunnies. Then we had to get blood work done to find out how severe her allergies to peanuts were. She can be around peanuts but when she eats them she automatically vomits. However, she can still eat pistachio nuts - this is a type of tree nut.

Until you know the extend of your childs allergy, I would refrain from giving him any nuts or products that contain or may or may not contain nuts. I would also call my doctor to see if he may require testing when he gets a bit older.

Allergic Living magazine is a good reference and they have some good articles as well. Hope this helps.

My sons (now 20 and 22) were allergic to dark chocolate. But not white chocolate. Thank God they outgrew it. Old son's first daughter is allergic to cinnamon and eggs. 20 yr old developed allergy to eggs for a while after having flu shot 2 yrs ago. The allergy was just nausea, then went away as quick as it came on. You never know what causes allergies and when they will go away. Take heart, he will probably out grow it.
