My niece will be two in May and any time she is left alone (ie: nap time or bed time )will dig in her diaper and play in her poop. My sis has tried taping her diaper shut and zipping her into her pajamas backward and my neice has still managed to get into her diaper.........any tips?

Ladies my son is 3 (turns 4 in August) he has Down Syndrome so our communication skills are a little behind. He can comprehend everything, but his verbal is lacking. We started potty training h a couple months ago because he seemed interested in going poop on the potty. And we've been successful; however, recently he has started playing with his poop (making poop balls and throwing them on the floor, sticking his hand in his diaper and pulling out the poop) My husband figured out that he does this around nap time because it gets him out of taking a nap (usually because he ends up in the tub instead), and I'm pretty sure the other times it's because he doesn't like the feel of poop in his diaper. We've had the repetitive conversation that you don't go poop in your pants or play with it. I've tried to give him key words to tell me he has to use the potty, to no avail. I am at my wits end.....any helpful suggestions to curb this disgusting habit????

Ok...I SO went through this.  The best advise I got was from a pediatrician.  What they told me was to wash my daughter (also 2 at the time!) off in a cold shower rather than a warm bath.  Now, I'm not talking icy...just cool.  She didn't like it.  It took 3 cold showers and she has never played in it again.  The other thing that is EXTREMELY important is not to overreact or get really upset.  Just explain calmly what the consequences are....that they will be washed in a cold shower...and clean up the mess without getting upset or dwelling on it.  No attention (even negative) for playing in poop + a cold shower = not worth it to the two year old!  Good luck!

Surely as soon as the baby poops she would change her? I assume this is only happening when she has woken up and pooped before your sister realises she is awake and going to the toilet. Has she tried putting the actual diaper on back to front? And if she is using disposibles, has she tried using real nappies/reusable nappies? If she used one with a fleece liner it would make it harder for the baby to get her hand down into the poop.

My son has done this like half a dozen times and knock on wood hasn't done it in over a month. My husband and I just repeat 'no' and 'don't touch your poop' and 'yuckie' ...the last time we got a nail brush and scrubbed his fingers in the tub after the incident...he was screaming bloody I guess we made it an unpleasant experience that he doesn't want to repeat it anytime soon...well, I'm hoping at least!

Good luck!
