I have a boy who is 2 yrs 8months old he is reluctant to use the toilet, he refuses the potty completley. He knows when he has been to the toilet, he will sit on the toilet but becomes distressed when he is about to do the business, any tricks????

try the cheerios okay it might not be a good thing to waist food but it helped my kids when I asked them to soak the cheerios they enjoyed it and it was fun to watch them cuz they laughed and giggled and said bye bye to them.

Hi there,

Not sure where you live but as its coming up to summer this is what i did. After breakfast we went outside for the whole day. I took as many toys/games etc outside with us. I let him run around in just a tshirt and underwear. I took 2 different types of potty's outside and the egg timer. I set the egg timer every 15 mins to start, when the egg timer goes off he has to sit on the potty and try, no worries if he doesnt go. I found the egg timer helpful and fun as its then not you getting on to the all the time when they are in the middle of doing something. we ate lunch outside and sometime dinner aswell. My son found the egg timer funny and as soon as it went off he would run to the potty and try.

We also had a sticker chart and sweets...one sweet (like a m&m) for a pee and 2 for a poo.

Hope this helps.

Joy

My son was the exact same way. He would kick & scream and I tried all of the tricks out there! I just stopped trying and he decided he would do it. He was fully trained at 2 years and 9.5 months (just 3 weeks now!). I did give him M&Ms for a reward and he has a magnetic potty chart. He loves to the whole procedure of dumping it into the big potty, washing his hands, flushing, getting the treats and then closing the door. He's so proud that we let him do it all himself and we are SO proud that he does it! Good luck-let it happen at his pace and he'll do it when he's ready :)

Just gentle persuation and a lot of coaxing, he will do it all in his own good time. I have 5 children and each one potty trained at different stages and in different ways , there are no hard and fast rules just relax and let them et on with it. I did however find that letting them sit in wet/ soiled pants fo a short while before ceaning and changing them helped . Good luck

Give it time. It will only frustrate the both of you to keep on pushing him to use the potty. It took my daughter until she was 3 1/2 to use the potty without prodding. I started at 18 months to introduce the potty idea and then struggled for 2 years to find the right groove. She didn't potty on her own until her first day of pre-school and saw a bunch of other kids using the potty...don't stress yourself, it will come in time.

My son was over 3 years old before he was ready to potty train. Trust me on this...they will let YOU know when they are ready and not a minute sooner:).....give him time, he will get there on his watch!!
