Potty training a girl

Whats a good age to start potty training a girl? And what do you do if she wants nothing to do with a potty chair? My daughter is 18months and does not want to sit on her potty chair.

i have 6 kids 3 girls and 3 boys, let her come into the toliet with you while you are going and put her on the potty at the same time she will get used to sitting on it but if that dont work have you tryed putting her on the big girls toliet sometimes they wont to sit where there mummy sits my 2year old son use to walk around with his and play with it even watch tv on it untill one day he went in it now he uses the potty and the big toliet all the time but they will only do it when they wont to, dont rush them or they will never wont to go

We struggled with potty training - mainly b/c I think I introduced the concept too early. My daughter didn't take to it until she was 3 - and even then she had small "accidents" often until she was 4.

The goal is to have your child become self-motivated about using the potty. Otherwise, even if she's using the potty, YOU'RE the one who's trained to notice the signs of her urges. 18 months is a little young to expect her to understand her body and its needs - I wouldn't even think about potty training now. You'll know when it's time. Your child will probably show interest on her own without prompting.

hi mandy.

it's something you can't really rush most children will not go potty if they are not ready and you don't want to force the issue and make the potty an enemy. you need to make potty time a fun thing. i used to get my daughter to sit on the potty on the promise that if she did her 'business' i would read her our special 'potty book', which was a story about pottys that i brought from a book shop about pottys. i would only ever read her this book after she had done her stuff and i found this kidna reward system really worked. i also had a sticker chart, she used to get stars and i let her put them on the chart every time she did good. i think they need a little incentive to give them encouragement and make it a positive experience. but don't worry. my daughter was 3 before she took to it and some children never take to the potty and just prefer to go straight to the toilet. just try and stay possitive and remember, all children are individuals and will do things at their own paces. it doesn't matter if someone you know's child is the same age and already doing it. i'm sure there's things you child can do that theirs can't. try not to feel too pressured to get her doing it perfect and let her take her time and she'll guide you. hope this helps

Hi Mandy!!

My daughter will be 3 in July and she has been off the nappy since she was 17 months. I used to let her wear a panty on weekends so she could get used to it and also because i had more time to spend with her. I used to take her to bathroom with me so she could get used the routine and maybe you should try putting her on the toilet while you keep her. What i found with my daughter was that she enjoyed doing what mommy does so it was quite easy for me...and also she thought she was so big when she went potty and we all made a great big fuss when she would do her thang!!!! I hope i have helped a little....good luck
