Question for someone with medical knowledge of human pregnancy

when i thought i was 5/6 weeks pregnant my bloods came back at 4 weeks pregnant (hCG 2231). two weeks later i went to the Dr and scan revealed a gestational sack 4 weeks prob a little earlier. was explained there is a small chance of blighted ovum, but Dr feels i probably ov'ed later in my cycle due to Clomid messing with OPK results. but that would mean i had an increadibly high hCG level at what would have been 2 possibly even one week preg. if i work out the hCG increase at the slowest level of double every 96 hours i get the result that i will be 5-6 weeks next week at Dr's appointment (wednesday 16th) this makes sense.. what i want to know is:
1) when do hCG levels normally slow down
2) is there a posibility this might be a twin pregnancy?

my symptoms are about as bad as they were with my son at between 10-14 weeks. and i should only be 4-5 now

3) would a blighted ovum show higher than normal hCG?

Thanks for you help xx

The chances that this are a blighted ovum are slim; they don't typically generate a high hCG, but rather the opposite. The link Jodi provided nicely sums up the most relevant info about hCG levels.

Chances are, if you were just taking clomid, without any accompanying sonos or blood work by an RE doc, your cycle may have been a bit off from what you thought, and you are just not as far along as you think.

At this point, it really is just a wait-and-see game...meaning that as anxious as you are to have some type of confirmation of a viable pregnancy, you really won't know anything more concrete until a follow-up ultrasound. Sitting here and trying to calculate numbers and counting days will do nothing other than make you nuts. There is nothing you can do at this point other than keep on living your life, and wait to see what the next ultrasound shows.

Sorry - I know how frustrating this is, particularly when any type of infertility is involved. Good luck!

I had these blighted ovums and I can tell you that my pregnancy symptoms completely disappeared so I knew something was afoot! With my daughter my dates and the scans did not match for the scan records I must of conceived of day 2 of my period absolutely no chance of that but that is the date that they used. I would wait and see what happends at 6 weeks you can see a heartbeat and a full sack so ask for a scan to put your mind at rest. The last blighted ovum I had was thought to be a twin pregnancy infact it was a triplet pregnancy. So just hold tight and try and relax and see what the experts say. Fingers crossed for you. xx

Everyone is different when it comes to pregnancy, you may have just calculated wrong.
