I have a 8 year old girl step daughter that will be 9 in a week. She doesn't need a bra (not developing anything at all), but wants to wear one beacuse her friend is. Her friend gave her a bra this past weekend. She didnt tell me and hid it from me yesterday like she is embarassed. I tried telling her this morning that she doesn't need to be wearing a bra just yet. I think she is too young and I want to be the one to buy her the first bra, not to wear one a friend gave her. I'm scared she is trying to grow up to fast, and I don't want her to think I'm just being mean, I feel it should be a special time and a developmental thing. I don't let my girls even wear 2 pieces. Does anyone have some advice for me??

Well if there is nothing to hold up then there really is no point in her having one. It doesn't sound like she is trying to grow up too fast, just wants to be like her friend.

Don't make a big deal out of it, my daughter is only 3 and wants to wear a bra because she sees me and grandma wear one. So instead of her constantly taking one out of my drawer and trying to wear it we bought her a bikini that every once in a blue moon she will wear under her shirt. Your daughter wants to fit in and if her friends are all ready wearing bras she is feeling different take her out and get her a half top that she can wear under her shirt it doesn't have to mean she is growing up to fast it is completely a fitting in with others situation and what if she doesn't develop until she is in her late teens that is a long time for her to feel different. I would just take her now and get her a training bra.

Well it can't hurt......but tell her just what you told us. It's special to you and you want her to wait.
