It may be a yeast infection. They get them on occasion . You need a precription from the Dr. Also try using cloth diapers with no rubber pants. and when you wash the diapers use vinegar in the wash water to kill the yeast.

If indeed you find out it's a rash and not an infection, you could try what I found worked best. My son had a short gut so his stool was very acidic and burned his bottom constantly so I fee like the queen of diaper rash.. Here's my own combination that cleared it up every time. First, a very thin almost dry layer of Desitin followed by a thick layer of plain old Vaseline finished up by some powder to keep it from sticking to the new diaper. The key to this is to not fool with it too much. I know it sound wrong, but if the diaper is just wet, you should not wipe it off too much, just the top layer and reapply the Vaseline and powder. Part of the rash is all the irritation from the cleaning we give it. If you seal it up good, the bacteria stays out and you can give it time to heal. Of course stool is a different situation.. Good luck. Oh, and I used this even on really bad open soars, it does heal it.

You can try corn flour/Corn starch (in South Africa we call it maizena) - I am now a grandmother and that is all I used for my children and now also for the grandchildren - my daughters little one of 2 is very susceptible to nappy rash and with the use of the corn starch - used as a powder or dabbed on with a little cottonwool - like you would your face powder it works likes a dream and dries up the rash in no time
