Small baby boy

I'm worried about my baby. I have three children (6 year old boy, 3 year old girl, and 9 month old boy). All my kids were thin and small but I'm especially worried about my baby. He's 14 pounds, 4 ounces at 9 months, and he really is slow with eating solids. He eats twice a day and just recently started to matter eating pureed food. He wants breast milk most of the time. I've tried pancakes and egg but he spits it out, not a huge interest. He crawls and is super strong, meets all his milestones... I'm just worried because his doctor said he's the size of a 3 month old. I'm 5'0 and my husband is 5'8, he was born at 5 lb 8 oz 2 weeks early so how big can he really get? Anyone else out there have a small boy who caught up?

14lb is very small for a 9 month old (it is well below the 3rd percentile), but I wouldn't go as far as saying that he's the size of a 3 month old. He's the size of quite a LARGE 3 month old. Given your child's size at birth, he is still a little on the light side, though - he probably should be closer to 16 or 17 lb. However, I also had a very small child and she really didn't catch up with her peers until she was about 7 or 8 YEARS old. She also didn't eat solids a lot until she was about a year old - she would eat some, but was not a huge solids eater - barely even started until 9 months.

My pediatrician used to check in on her constantly but in the end resolved that she was who she was, and she was just a small baby. She was happy and healthy, and that was really all that mattered.

As long as he's staying hydrated and he's active and growing... he's likely fine. Breastfeed on demand and let him get used to solids at his own pace. Kids come in all shapes and sizes and all that really matters is that they are healthy. If he stops gaining weight or starts losing... then you can worry a little, but until that point... just let him be whatever size he's going to be. ♥
