So, my son is 21 months and he will not listen to me at all. Any ideas?

We are having a very hard time trying to teach him what he can and can not do. He throws horrible tantrums and he hits out of anger. I have tried timeouts, yelling, even spanking and nothing seems to work. What can I do??? I hate spanking makes me feel so horrible, and yelling seems to go nowhere. He doesn't stay still enough for a timeout and putting him in his crib for the timeout doesn't work either. What else is there?

Try redirecting him when he's doing something he's not supposed to do. Say no and then offer to read a book or play a game. As far as the tantrums walk away, when he hits say no hitting and walk away from him and leave him. If he runs after you pick him up and place him in a safe space to calm down, on the bottom of the stairs on a couch anywhere that's safe, preferably not his bedroom or crib. When he is listening make sure you overly praise him for his good behavior. Toddlers don't care if they get good attention or bad they just want attention so make sure you make it worth while for him to behave.
