Squash Allergy??

Today about 30 minutes after eating squash for lunch followed by a few ounces of formula, I noticed tiny, pink/or flesh colored pimply bumps on my 7 month old's belly, legs, cheeks and upper arms. She also then vomited up twice small amounts of the squash. Her mood was happy the whole time though. She has had squash at least four other times before (with NO reaction) and it has even seemed to be one of her favorites! That was around noon today and the little bumps are still there, but seem to be going down. What do you think? Can a baby be allergic to squash? And why NOW when she has had to several times before? She has not had any other reaction like this to any of her other solids. I'm planning to call the Dr. in the morning to ask, but am anxious and want to ask other moms.

Squash is not a food that usually engenders reactions like that. However, the fact that she has had it before does not mean she would never become sensitive to it. In fact, if someone has a mild allergy or sensitivity to something, exposure to it repeatedly can make them more sensitive rather than less. I would be less surprised if it were eggplant that caused a reaction as it does contain things folks react to.

Was there anything else at all that could have caused the rash? Was she too hot at all? Have you tried a new detergent? Are you wearing a new perfume? Is she taking a different formula? Have you changed brands of baby food?

http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/allergy... is a nice description of food allergies versus food sensitivities and how to handle introducing new foods.

I would say it's possible. Anyone can have a reaction to anything.
