Starting School

My daughter starts kindergarten next week and she seems quite anxious about it. She's gone to pre-school for a few days a week for two years and enjoyed that and she seemed to enjoy her school inductions but the nearer the start date is, the more upset she's becoming. I've always put a positive spin on school, saying how much fun she'll have playing and learning but I think I might have over done it and it's back fired. She told me she doesn't want to go because she'll miss me. It breaks my heart because it's really hard for me too as she's my first born. Any advise on how to calm her (and my) anxiety would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Make sure you keep a positive attitude with her about school and on the day tell her that you will miss her but you will look forward to hearing about all the fun she has had. Children pick up very quickly on body language so convince yourself that she will be fine and save those tears for when she is safely inside. It is more upsetting for mums than children to cut loose and let your child take those first steps to being an individual. Deep breath she will be fine!
