Taking my daughter's father to court for child support, do I need a lawyer?

I'm taking my daughter's father to court for child support. I know he's going to have a lawyer, everyone around me tells me that I don't need a lawyer. I should mention that he barely works, at least the last I knew, his parents actually told him (he was 34 at the time mind you) to move back home when they found out I was pregnant. His parents have always kept rich people close at hand and I'm sure they have a good lawyer that they've managed to schmooze with dinner parties and homemade limoncello. I could go on....any thoughts and/or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you ladies.

It is always better for both parties to have legal representation in a child support/visitation situation.

I'd recommend one.
