Tantrums in public!!!

My son is almost 2 and he pitches fits anytime we are in public. I can't take him anywhere, especially the dr or somewhere he has to sit still, without him making a big scene. I've tried snacks, books, toys, singing, playing games. He still screams and pitches a fit. Usually the fits start because he wants to get down & run around, or he wants something that I can't let him have. WHAT CAN I DO?!?!

I stand firm that the more you try and solve his tantrums the worst they will get! If you really want him to take you seriously when he behaves this way stand firm. Don't let him... It is hard at this age because there is no logic I know... I have a 6, 4, and 2 year old! Well I was VERY strict with our first to and felt overbearing so I went softer with ur third well! I stand firm on being FIRM & STRICT not all the time but when it is about how to treat people and behave (those are important qualities)! Well I always got the brunt from a lot of people saying I hounded our kids... That was very hard on me but I had expectations of how I thought they should behave and expected them to follow it. I have others say they wish they could be firmer with there kids but don't want to embarrass themselves in front of others. Well people will talk no matter what you do. i just say to them what is more embarrassing a few people thinking your to hard on your kids, or a kid that can't sit down at the dinner table, screams for everything in site, etc... I know I wold be a lot more embarrassed to have my kids acting like brats than punishing them. Spare the Rod spoil the child! Just to note all my hard work really has paid off being very consistant and firm... We are always told how great our children behave I know with out a doubt in my mind that it is because I was strong and held my grown. We have some passive friends who don't discipline we were out to eat with well their 4, and 6 year old were running around the restaurant, my daughter says "mom why are they doing that, they aren't supposed to do that"! Well they were asked to leave if they could not keep their children in line... I think that would be embarassing!

I am not saying this to you as if your doing something wrong... he is not even 2... Now is the time to start being consistant! Don't toys, games, food snacks to try and solve intial problems. Sometimes the best thing is just to IGNORE it! If you warn them and tell them what you expect and their still screaming than leave them scream! At 2 this is normal behavior but is it at 6! I hope I helped!

My nephew did this. At first my sister and me would get frustrated, but then I suggested that she ignore him when he threw his fits. She did and man i tell you he has calmed down. It is all a covert operation lol to get you to give in. Once you take the factor away that you won't bend, it should get better. Good luck!!!!
