My 14 year old lad refuses to eat anything dairy, he wont have butter, cheese, eggs, milk. It is such a big problem when we go anywhere as he cant have sandwiches etc.He isnt allergic to any of it, he just hates dairy products!

Dairy isn't a requirement as long as he is getting the nutrients from other foods. Take him to a nutritionist and have them work w/ him to come up w/ an appropriate diet plan. Then you can give him a food budget and have him make his own meals. He'll either do it all and be healthier for it.... or get sick of the hassle and start eating dairy again. ;)

Ok. Well, I'd not fight him as long as he gets the correct amount of calcium.
From birth to about 14 is when the body needs calcium to grow the long bones to their full length, from 14 to about 25 is when the body uses calcium to harden the bones. Lack of calcium at his age means softer more brittle bones as an adult.
Calcium can be found of foods other then dairy and he can take suppliments
