Hi, my son is 9 months old and has been really really grumpy today! Has been screaming most of the day. I have also noticed that for the last few days he has been tugging and rubbing on his left ear a lot and today he keeps pressing that ear against his shoulder. He has a very mild temp and i tried to give him pain relief this morning but it didn't help at all. i don't know if he is just getting more teeth or if he might have an ear infection! Please help!!

How's his appetite been? Is he taking his bottles? If there's an ear infection, it would possibly hurt to swallow for him. Also, if he lays down with a bottle, he'll be more prone to frequent ear infections. If it's teething, a very slight fever is common, but is usually accompanied by a runny nose of clear mucous. Hope this helps.

The last few days i am struggling to get him to drink 3 bottles. He will drink a bit then stop and play with his bottle then drink a bit more but he doesn't cry while drinking. He will eat solids fine but hasn't been as obsessed as he usually is. He does usually drink laying down too. He had a bad cold last week but apart from a bit of a runny nose (only clear) nothing really else. If he is teething shouldn't i feel bumps on his gums? When he got his first 2 teeth i felt bumps for a few days first. now he has nothing.

My little one was just like that about three days ago and well i got online google of course and found out some perrty cool ways to get rid of an ear ache i am sure its safe enough for a 9mnth mine is 9mnth too, well they told me to get a small sock of hers and put some salt in it any salt would do then heat it in the microwave not to hot tho, then place on the ear thats hurting ( i figured it would be the one she was grabin) im am not sure if that was what helps or getting a small cotton swap and spraying it with some prefume then inserting it on the ear make sure its not too small tho it so it wont go inside her ear one of those two things help me out a lot because my baby slept just fine after that, Good luck hope this helpd!

The fact that he had a cold last week would make me think it's likely the start of an ear infection.. I would check his temperature periodically...if it's 100 or more, it's not teething. For your peace of mind and his comfort as well, I'd have him checked tomorrow if it's still a problem. In the meantime, if it were me, I'd give him infant tylenol for his pain, whether it's ear or gums. Bumps on gums? I'm not sure about that one.

My daughter does the same thing when she is getting teeth. If it's not better in a day or so I would take him in just to be safe!
