The Craft Clutter

[deleted account] ( 3 moms have responded )

Ok, so I have 1 daughter (we are planning a 2nd for next year) who is 2 years old. I LOVE that she is creative and doing crafts; however, I am having a hard time finding what to do with it all?? My ideas are to monthly pick a few pieces to put up, her involved more and more as she gets older; keeping the pieces from a year and going through it in a years time (ie: putting everything in a box for 2011 and then in 2013 going through it and keeping the pieces) and limiting the box space so I HAVE to go through it??? I just don't know what to do, my mom kept EVERYTHING we ever gave her and I don't want to be that mom, but I want to keep some pieces as its important!! Does anyone have tips to encourage kids and avoid the clutter??? Also, what do you do with stuff you don't keep? Are you open with your kids about recycling it?? Or do you do it after they go to bed?

Would she understand if you asked her to pick three pieces from each month to keep? Then, when you get to the end of the year, choose 3 from the whole year to keep? If she's not quite old enough to do that yet, you could do it for her and involve her in the choosing as much as possible.

I tape all her creations to our window and get her to pose and take a picture. Then I throw it all away when she's not around. I have a record of her creativity, but don't have the clutter that comes with it.

If it's something that she's particularly proud of, I'll hang it on the fridge for a few weeks before I toss it.
