To feed or not to feed?

My son is 6 months old and fully breastfed. He does not like to eat baby food or baby cereal, he doesnt even like baby juice. My question is how long did you only breastfeed and is it ok to start foods later than 6 months?

Julia, there is absolutely no harm in a baby not taking solids at 6 months. All babies are different, and there are many who won't take solids until much later. My daughter really didn't have solids until she was almost 9 months. She simply wasn't interested. Just keep offering every few days or so, and he will eventually take it. It isn't their main source of nutrition until AFTER they are 12 months. Until then, it is really only practice. They do not, however REQUIRE solids at 6 months.

it's ok to start the baby on foods whenever the baby is ready. and if you read the back of gerber cereal it says right on it that it may take about 15 attempts before the baby will actually eat it b/c they don't care for the texture or taste.

My girls started solids at 3.5 months.

My son took his first bite at 6 months, but his interest came and went at random. He had way more breastmilk only days then days he would even TASTE solids. He wasn't eating solids on a daily basis until around a year and still had some breastmilk only days til around 18 months.

All 3 (twin girls are 9.5 and my son is 3) are healthy, happy, growing, and thriving exactly as they should be. :)

it is okay to begin foods later then six months. before 1 year foods are really only given to get used to textures and tastes, not a main source of nutrition. as an example - my friend began her baby on cereal at 6 months but got a rash from it, her pedi told her to hold off solids until 9 months as her system didn't seem ready to handle them. she did this and when she reintroduced at 9 months she was fine. as long as your baby is staying full on milk alone you don't need to introduce solids yet if you don't want. (my baby wasn't satisfied with milk alone by 4 months and was taking almost 40 ozs in a day so i was advised to begin solids then, which he did great on)

your baby requires solids at 6 months for growth and development so it is reccomended that you just try agian every other day until he is ready. Dont stress just keep trying. They are not a MAIN source of nutrtion until 9-12 months however they are needed because breast milk doesnt have all the nutrional requirements after 6 monhts of age. Dont push him just try and if he doesnt like it try again in a few days or so. Try in the evenings when your supply is down

Thank you for responding. I started him at 4mnths on cereal but he projectile vomited that (he also had acid reflux until 4months). I offered carrots again tonight and he kept making gagging faces. He is happy and healthy on just breastmilk; most likely I will tty and offer (not push) and just wait till he wants it! :)

Start offering many healthy options, he will go with one sooner or later
