To medicate or not to medicate? What is you opinion on medicating children?

I am curious with parents views on medicating kids. I have seen, read, and heard of so many kids being medicated. Now, I'm not talking about medications given because of physical health issues. I'm talking about mental health like ADHD, ADD, and so on. I really want know how other parents feel about this topic. What are your opinions? Do you feel like parents are turning to meds so that they don't have to deal with their kids? Do you feel like kids are over medicated, under medicated? Children being quickly diagnosed with this problem is on the rise. I would really like to hear your honest opinion on this matter.

Yes, I do think some kids are diagnosed as having ADHA, etc and medicated when there was no need for that. I do think some parents can't handle their kids and it's easier to tell the doctor that they think their kid has it so they can be medicated. It seems like it's the "popular" thing to do. Kid acts out - medication. Kid can't concentrate - medication. Kid can't sleep - medication. Kid has too much energy - medication.

I don't medicate my children unless it is bacterial... our bodies are made to fight any viruses!!!!! I am not a doctor, but i do try to stay away from medication for me and my family. I also have a child who was so very active and difficult when she was a baby and i am so sure if i went to a doctor to find out what was "wrong" with her, they would have put her on medication. But rather, we found healthy ways for her to exert her energy (sports, dancing, etc.), and she is great now (14)!!!! Good luck!
