hi moms, I have a (just turned) 3 year old DS who was having afternoon naps. They seemed to get shorter and shorter, sometimes an hour or sometimes 2 hours. At bedtime we would put him down around 8ish but he would toss and turn until 9 ish until he finally fell asleep. Other mom friends have mentioned maybe it is time to cut the naps out. I tried for the past 2 days to not give him a nap, but kept asking him if he wanted to lie down and he said no. He was not cranky or rubbing his eyes. And he would fall asleep right away at 7 pm. My dad was watching him today and did not give him a nap, but said he fell asleep in the car in the afternoon for a few minutes and then had to be woken up. Is it time to cut the nap out or am I depriving him of sleep that he needs? He usually will sleep from 7 pm to about 7:30 the next morning. Or should I still let him nap but cut down the amount of time he sleeps and wake him up after an hour?

Thanks!

The more stimulation he has the more tired he will get. If he's just at home for the day then he won't need a nap but if you are out he will need one.

LOL, Mine was still napping when she started Kindergarten, we had 1/2 days at the time. She was starting at the age of 4 and could only get into the afternoon class. We did not find out until 2 weeks before starting so her nap transition was very abrupt

If he isn't cranky or acting tired I might stop them all together.

I think the extra time in the evening to yourself might be kind of nice.
