Too Many naps and babies development

I am a grandmother forgive me but who better to give advice then new moms? My granddaughter is 10 months old, her parents are not together. Her mom wants her to nap every 2 hours and my son puts her down when she get tired at least 3 times a day. She just started rolling over at 9 months and I wonder if the delay is because she sleeps so much. She visits here and she is fine with 3 naps and always happy. I don't know what the problem could be. I am worried. She is not crawling or attempting to walk.

I agree with both Jodi and Evelyn, with this one caution: Make sure that you are not looking for things that you think the child's mother is doing 'wrong'. Each child is different, and so is each parent. You are not present at the child's mother's house on an hourly or even daily basis, so your assumptions about her parenting could be off base.

BTW: My youngest, with both biological parents in the home and heavily involved with him, did not attempt to roll at the 'normal' age. He didn't attempt to walk until he was well over the age of 1. He's a perfectly normal (if a bit obnoxious at times) teen now.

Also to add to Jodi's comments which I absolutely agree with; A child at this age is not going to be walking as yet or even attempting. Most do not walk until close to age one or even over that. But she should be crawling at the least.

Every 2 hours is ridiculous for a 9 month old. How does she actually get her to nap that often?

Basically, in total, a baby this age should be sleeping around 14 hours per 24 hour period. But obviously this will vary from child to child. How much she naps during the day will depend on her night time habits!

If she is spending a larger amount of time in her bed, then it could be delaying her development. Get her doing a lot of tummy time and activity when she is not sleeping.

TBH that is way to often for naps. At that age, it is still about 2 naps per day, but not very long. Her just rolling over is actually quite normal. At this age, most babies are not crawling. Some never crawl and just go straight to walking. My daughter starting crawling probably about 1 year, and my son NEVER crawled or attempted to crawl. They both started walking between 14-15 months.
