top tooth, really high in gum

my DD has just cut her first tooth, the top left. Just wondering if it is normal for the tooth to be really high up in the gum? You have to poke your finger under her lip to feel it and when she smiles her gums still look tooth free, their is no tooth at the bottom of the gum, it is really high and you cant see it with out pulling her lip up to look.

Has anyone else had this with their child?

I wouldn't worry about this. Teeth sometimes erupt appearing high in the gum our from the side of the gum. As the tooth continues to grow out, it should position itself in proper position. If it does not, or you have other concerns you can contact a pediatric dentist. Every child should have a dental exam by about 6 months after the first tooth erupts or 12 months of age.
