Unable to sleep at night--suggestions?

My circadian clock has been switched around for years. It seems like no matter what I try, I cannot sleep at night. Then I end up eating crap all night long. I usually end up sleeping all day, unless I have to walk my sister's dog. Then after I walk him, we cuddle and I take a nap. I have tried to stay up all day and I end up falling asleep in the afternoon or evening more or less against my will. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !

I could bring you a sledgehammer......

lol Sorry. I don't have any suggestions. I've never slept WELL, but I do sleep some and it's almost always at night. It's 'usually' way too hard for me to nap during the day no matter how much I want to some days.

I hope you figure something out that helps!

I have not tried the melatonin. I don't know why because many people have suggested it. My mom and her dad both have insomnia. My Papa takes the melatonin and it has helped him somewhat. It has not helped my mom.

None of the prescription sleep aides have ever helped. It's so frustrating. I was this way all the way back to high school. It was not as bad but it took an act of God to get me up for school and I slept, easily until 1pm on weekends...and that was BEFORE I started drinking all night! Lol

I don't always eat crap "crap." I eat more or less like I would during the day. Although, they came out with Limited Edition Mega Stuffed Oreos and um, let's just say I've I had a few. ; ) I am going to start helping with my daughter's basketball team this week, it's not much but it's something to start with.

Thanks for the feedback!

Haha, I used to be like that. I just went back to work, and now I feel half dead by 10pm.

Anyway, it sounds like you are in a cycle. The crap you are eating at night is no good for you, but you are eating BECAUSE you are waking at night. So to start with, get rid of a the crap and find some healthy substitutes.

Secondly, after getting home from the walk with the dog, do NOT sit down. Try to find ways of keeping yourself busy during the day. You NEED to break the cycle.

I am going to be fair, I still sometimes grab a nap on one day over the weekend. i don't mean to, but I go and get some alone reading time, and next thing I know it is 2 hours later.....

Have you tried melatonin? My brother was a terrible insomniac, and he tried it in a small dose, and it worked.
