Ways to entertain a 4 month old!?

My son is 4 months and 1 week and it seems like he's constantly bored...We have a nice swing for him, an exersaucer mega, a bright starts playplace, a bumbo, johnny jumpup, and elmo ride in push thing, and tons of smaller toys for him too.

He lasts for about 5 minutes in all them so I feel like im constantly rotating him from one thing to another! He sits assisted and has good head control if that helps.

Anyone have suggestions for toys or entertainers, or games or anything in that case that worked for their babies?! He seems so bored all the time and apparently I'm not entertaining enough ;)

I think this is the hardest age. 5 minutes sound about right for a 4 month old's attention span! When my son was that age we went for a lot of walks. He liked being out with me- on walks or errands. A 4 month old isn't going to play with a toy or activity for very long- sorry to say! You are probably the best toy, as tiring as that can be. Lots of talking & singing & touching- those are the best activities right now!

I suggest sitting or laying him on the floor with a few toys and allowing him to occupy himself. My daughter became very independent the longer I left her on the floor. Just give him time and he will adjust to being left to entertain himself.

One of the things I do is get on the computer, on paint. Then have fun spelling names or drawing shapes while holding my 4 mouth old. He loves it! Or my sister will get out her I-pod and show him music videos (he loves kitty Perry). Ya you can't really do much when he is in our arms but at least he is enjoying himself. Some times even getting on email he's excited...

At this age, you are his biggest plaything, he'll be most entertained interacting with you! I'm NOT implying that you don't play with him, but I don't think he's quite old enough to really appreciate the toys that you listed. I also realize that you can't contanstantly play with your kid every minute of every day. What I found is that when I did want to set my daughter down to do something, she really liked her playmat. It has toys that hang from it and a mirror, and the mirror has always been a huge hit. At this age, it's simple pleasures! Really cute baby, by the way.

my child just turned 4 months on the 5th and i was having that problem too. i just lay her on this little colorful bug mat that she has and put at toy a little out of he reach. also, i just rented this baby ensteins video for her, i says for 9 months and up but it kept her occupied for about 20 mins until she got hungry

That is a tough age to entertain.  In a month or two he will be better at grasping and rolling and then he will be entertained longer!! hang in there! :)

Yea, I always felt the same way w/ kids at that stage. It's like that until they are able to move about and get into to stuff on their own! With my 3rd daughter, I've tended to put her in the highchair actually. I think she likes to be around the same level... she's 6 months now. We give her a toy or two... and it works for awhile. Each kid is different! And - too much is overwhelming at times... so just be ready to try one thing after another, not a bunch of toys at once. Endurance! ;)

I think you have plenty of things to keep him busy! I have a 4 month old as well and I feel the same way! I am constantly moving him from one thing to another! Give it another month and he will find things to keep him busy! Try putting him on his tummy over a boppy with some toys in front of the boppy. It build their leg strength and they have an objective to get the toys! Good luck!!!
