besides the traditional lies we all tell our kids about santa and the tooth fairy, what lies have you told your kids? was it to get out of something you didn't want to do? perhaps you were trying to spare their feelings about something? give me the low-down dirty of what lies you've told and maybe if you were a little guilty about it? thanks! let's make this fun!

My kid isn't really old enough for me to lie to. I tell him he can have this or that later and then just don't bring it up so he doesn't get it.

Other than Santa, I can't think of anything I've ever lied to him about. There are times when he'll ask something and it will take me a few minutes to answer because I want to be honest without scaring him or overloading him with too much info. Also, I don't like that we've done the Santa thing but I allowed it for his benefit mostly because I didn't want him to feel left out around his friends, who all believe. I also didn't want my kid to be the one to ruin it for the rest lol And don't get me wrong, over the holidays I did tell him a few times that Santa was watching and that if he didn't behave he wasn't gonna come visit. Part of me felt guilty for saying it though....lying about anything, even small stuff, just doesn't sit well with me lol

We tell our son the playground is closing when it's time to go. That way he doesn't throw a temper tantrum. Works every time!

One time I told my daughter that I was going to mail her off to Abu Dahbi if she didn't start behaving herself.

When my son's rabbit hung itself, my husband found it and buried it. It was very upsetting. My son (5 at the time) was with his dad for the weekend at the time. When he came home I told him the rabbit had got sick and died, and I showed him where we buried it, and helped him make a cross. I didn't think he could handle the thought that the rabbit had hung itself trying to get out of its cage......

I have since told him the truth - he is 14 now and has no problem with the fact that I lied to him at the time.

I'm sure I've lied about some things, but nothing really comes to mind.

The words "I'll tell you when you're older" have come out of my mouth, though.

My son asked me the other day why daddy didn't have boobs, and I was telling him that it was because boys didn't feed babies with them, and girls only got them when they were teenagers. Then his dad came in, raised and eyebrow, and said, "Because. Mine fell off."

Which sent everyone rolling. Not sure if that can be considered a lie though.

lol, I tell her that coffee is adult milk. And that she can't get in the bedroom during "Mommy/Daddy" time because of fairies, and not because I put two laundry baskets in front of the door! :D
