What is the best way to wean a 9 1/2-month old?

I am taking a medication for the next 2 weeks that cannot be mixed with breast milk. I have a feeling that this will be the end of breastfeeding, because my 9 1/2 month old really only nurses when she wants comfort or is sleepy anyway. What is the best way to wean a baby? How do I handle her requests to nurse? Should I use a sippy cup of formula during the day and a bottle at night?

I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and my medication can't be taken while breastfeeding either! What I would do is begin the transition with just a bottle, since it's more similar to the breast she will be more comfortable with it. If she acts like she wants to nurse, I would warm the formula, then cuddle her close while she eats. Sing to her, let her touch your face or whatever she was used to doing while nursing. If you nursed laying down, lay down and cuddle. My little boy forgot about the breast very quickly and only tried to nurse once after we stopped. This was after my milk was gone. I let him try and when he noticed there was no milk there, he just went on with life and didn't look back! If you really wanted to continue nursing, they have special bottle that look just like a human breast. They're very expensive though. You could always pump and throw out the milk while you're on the meds, then switch back after! Hope this helps! good luck!!!
