what makes a great mom?

Wow. Great question. The top 5 that pop immediately to mind:

1. Because my faith is very important to me I would say instilling of love and respect for God would be #1. I think it was the best thing my mom did for me.

2. Doing what any bird knows how to do: making a warm and safe nest for their child. This includes picking a father who will be present and stable and making sure she (the mother) is ready to make the sacrifices necessary to be a great mother. (Or being willing to drop everything else and GET ready if necessary.)

3. Someone who doesn't take herself too seriously. She's willing to admit when she screws up and say, "I'm sorry".

4. Someone who loves her kids enough to not care whether they hate her (temporarily) if it means that they will be better off in the long run.

5. Someone who realizes that each child is a separate person, not an extension of her. A great mom respects the dreams and personality of each child and knows how to bring out the best in each individual child.

Of course there's a million more things but those definitely come to mind first!

Each child is unique therefore what makes a great mom is unique too. I consider myself to be a great mom. I have three kids, 2 girls ages 14 & 9, and my son is not quite 1. However, although I might be a great mom for my kids, that doesn't mean that because someone raises their kids differently that they aren't a great mom also. What I think makes a great mom is someone who is able to adapt to different situations and work towards teaching their children right from wrong to the best of their ability with still leaving them to be able to develop and grow as individuals. I lot say that your children should always come before yourself, and a lot of the time that is the case. But we must remember that if we are not 1000% we can't be of much help to anyone else so we MUST look after ourselves too, and sometimes that means we have to put ourselves first. Just remember, if you are doing the best job at being a mother as you can, and your children are well loved and have everything they need, then you are a GREAT mother... and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

What makes a great mom.. Wow that's a easy one. A person that put her child needs ahead of her on. Some who patient, understanding, easy to talk to, but most of all when they know their child has done something wrong. She has the courage and strengh to tell him/her that the choices they made were incorrect. Some one who know that she have to take care of herself mentally and physically in order to provide a stable enviroment for her children, Must have God in her life, because without him nothing you can't make it.

Angie,

A great mom is someone that devotes their time and attention to their children. Most important thing you can do is take good care of yourself and that makes it easier for everyone else to love you. I'm sure you are caring and wonderful, educate your child and cherish every breath you take.

Quoting Angie:

I agree with Amanda except a mom might be willing to do anything for her children but should not do everything for her child. She should not hover and allow her children to make mistakes so they can learn. She should teach her children respect and responsibility.

Good point! I meant in extreme cases, but you are completely right, we do have to allow them to learn on their own no matter how much we like to hold their hands through out their lives.

A great mom loves her children passionately, and raises them the best she can to be good, happy, loving, and confident people!

Someone who loves her children with all her heart, and willing to do anything for them.
