I agree with Gena. Usually a good age is around 9 yrs old as some girls start to get their periods around that age. It is always best to talk to them about what is about to happen with their body before it happens so it does not scare them and they also get the information from you and not someone else that may give them incorrect information.

A REALLY good book is by American Girl called the "Care and Keeping of You". It is written very well. Go through the book together....this way as she has questions you can address them. It is also OK to say "I need to think about that." and get back to her later. Just make sure you do in a timely manner. Be open and honest with her. If she is asking a question that means she is ready for the answer. Talking to her opens the door so she knows it is ok to come to you with her questions and concerns.

You should definatly talk to her now.Maybe you can find something on the internet that could help you to explain her about the period.I would have told her in a earlier age already. But just be open with her and explain what its all about.

She's eleven, and a very mature young lady. But I just can't put the words together
