When is a good time to potty train?

My son will be one in a few days but he is already walking and i thought it would be good to start potty training early. Is this a bad idea? I have heard a few different responses.

1 yr old is too soon to be potty training. I'd wait until he's 2, unless he starts asking before that. With my first I started sitting her on the little potty around 18 months. She'd sometimes pee in it, and other times not. But it wasn't till after her 2nd birthday that she started really getting the concept of peeing only in the potty, and it wasn't until closer to her 3rd birthday that she could hold it regularly enough to not have accidents if we were more than 2 seconds away from the potty. My 2nd daughter is now almost 3 years old and I had decided with her to just let her decide when she wanted to be potty trained. She has just recently started running to the bathroom when she needs to go potty. When she asks, I'll let her start wearing panties. I foresee many many fewer accidents with her than with her older sister who I pushed the issue with rather than waiting for her to be ready. Now - I do have a friend who's little one was ready before her 2nd birthday. She just started asking to go potty like her big sis, and she rarely has accidents. But again, she potty trained based on the LO's interest and readiness.

Is he showing signs that he's ready? Is he letting you know when he needs to go or has gone?
It's a lot quicker to wit until they are ready. There will also be less accidents.
