My dr. told me not to give it to my son until 6 months of age. With my oldest son they told me to give it to him at 3 months old and I have read various answers online. What do you think?

I have read that cereal given in bottles increases the chances of your child becoming obese.

What do I think? I see it as an unnecessary hassle. I wouldn't do it before 5 months, at which point I would try cereal if the baby seems interested.

I did exactly what Jane did but at 4 months, if he is on formula he gets enough iron in that. My son was soooo extremely constipated it was the worst experience ever and he hated cereal!!!

I never gave my 9 month old rice cereal because it can cause constipation, bloating & has very little nutritional value. I started him on veggies & fruit around 6 months & completely skipped cereal...this is what my Dr suggested too.

You should wait until 4-6 months and you should only start before 6months if you get the OK from a doctor. If you start before that you run the risk of allergies and digestive problems for your little one. Why risk it?

Also, you shouldn't put cereal in a bottle as it is a choking hazard. Any solids should be given from a spoon.

At four months I started my son on grain cereals and then vegetables but when I went to the pediatrician he told me to wait until at least 5 months of age because there was less of a chance of him having allergies to the foods

I did the cereal in the bottle at 5 wks and then at 3 months i started introducing my son to solids with the cereal mixed with water....start it very thin and slowly work your way to a thicker consistency. eventually your son will be ready for flavor mixed with the cereal. go slow bc i moved to fast and gave my son diarreha for a week.
