why does my 19 month old hold food in his mouth?

I have a friend whose child did this:
A speech therapist came today and said she has a "backward swallow" i believe she called it.. where the tongue stays low instead of on the roof of the mouth when swallowing.. after an HOUR of trying to get her to swallow her food, we resorted to bribe-ing. So I gave her a piece of chocolate.. sure enough, when the chocolate hit her mouth the turkey went down too. If you want it to stop the best bet is to make sure to get foods he really enjoys.. It's usually the foods theyre not so keen on that they "pocket" Hope to help :)
