Why is my 6- month old waking up in the middle of the night to play with his surroundings??

My son used to sleep 12 to 13 hours straight w/o a feeding. He doesn't cry or need to be feed, he just rolls around in total 100% darkness touching his blanket, throwing his feet up, "talking", touching ( even turning on) his mobile, etc. I know it's not a big deal because he's not crying, but he's super noisy and due to recession circumstances, we are currently sharing a room and he's been doing this for a few weeks....so I'm slightly sleep deprived. Is this normal? Will it end? Any advice? Do I need to camp out on the couch?

He might be getting too many naps during the day, or going to sleep too early for the night.

My daughter is going through the exact same thing at the moment, i was told that it usually happens about 6 months when they go through a growth spurt,my daughter has been doing it for a few weeks now,It could also be teething,I was told its just a stage they go through and will grow out of it soon,Hopefully!! I need some sleep.

Yes, it's completely normal whenever they learn a new skill to want to try it out. When he figures out how to crawl or stand up, he'll practice that too... :) Sorry. It should end soon

This is very normal and common, my children out grew that stage but what I found comforting was to put on a lullaby so that they would fall back to sleep or give them less nap time and put them to bed later this way they would sleep thru the night.

My 6 month old has never slept through the night or longer than 4 hours. She currently averages 4 wakeups a night. So I wouldn't stress about your baby waking it is actually highly unusual that he slept 12-13 hours at all only 7% of babies STTN before 1 year of age. BTW STTN is considered by drs. to be 5 hours.

All babies pretty much do that. They just want to play, just like you wake up in the middle of the night they do too. It's perfectly natural, as long as he isn't crying it's not a big deal. My daughter is 11 mos now and she still does it once in a while, but not every single night anymore.

He's learning new skills and wants to use them! At 6 months it's like they just take off developmentally and they start doing so many things all of the sudden, the world opens up to them a little. I think what you're experiencing is totally normal, and I wouldn't change what you're doing. If it's hurting your sleep, you may want to go to the couch for your sake. He'll get over it and start sleeping again.

On a side note with the mobile...they recommend that once the baby can reach it to remove it from the crib. You don't want him to pull it down on top of him and then get tangled up in it. If he needs something like that you could get one of those things that straps to the side of the crib that has a mirror on it and plays songs. I put a glo-worm in bed with my daughter.

Good luck! Hang in there!
