I'm looking for any opinions/reviews of the "Your baby can read" dvd's/books ... what do you think? is it worth the $$$? are the kid really learning to read or just memorize?

I don't think a few months of 65$, I think it was three is all I paid. My three year old grand daughter asks every day to read her cards. The two year old looks at them and doesn't say much unless Alexis misses one she knows and then she corrects her occasionally while the baby just watches the videos.

I guess the idea that reading is exciting to them is exciting to me. My daughter spends time with the girls every day-about 15 minutes or so and that's all.

I guess by the end of the year we will know the results of my commitment of dollars and her commitment of time.

I'm an elementary school teacher and don't think it's necessary to spend that kind of money for something that has no guarantee. Children learn at different rates and they are going to respond to the books and dvds differently. I read to my son for 20 minutes every day and have bought him ABC books, puzzles, and games that will teach him to identify his letters and the sounds they make. He is sounding out words phonetically and wants to spell them and he is only 2. He can identify all 26 letters and put the sounds together to read and spell simple 3 letter words. An affordable dvd that I would recommend is Leap Frog Letter Factory. That video taught my son all the sounds the letters make. I also bought him the refrigerator phonics game by Leap Frog. I would say that they were worth the money.

I have these and my husbands grand father bought them and he paid alot of money for them and my kids dont watch them that often idk if you have the money and the time to work with them it's good but it's pricey for getting your kids to read early

I just bought these for my grandchildren. They are recognizing some of the words and we are four months into it. The girls are three and two and a baby 7 months. Not sorry I made the investment.

It is memorization, but a lot of reading is actually memorizing. I don't think the series sounds like a good investment and here is why :

1.I don't think babies should watch TV

2. It's a lot of money and most kids will learn to read with parental help anyway -who cares if it is when they are two or seven as long as thery are ready?

It is a ot of money. A friend of mine has it and her son hasn't memorized any of the words. If you don't mind the screen viewing time and hefty price tag look into Muzzy instead it seems much more stimulating based on what little ones need.

oh and about the memorization it is sort of a memorization but I think that it will help them learn other words... once they get the concept of those letters in certain words they can apply that to other words not mentioned in the video ... =0)

I bought the videos after some extensive research.. basically I came to the conclusion that the babys brain does learn the most in the first three years of life so why not help it... Those are the only videos that she watches.. I started when she was 3 months old.. I dont have her watch it everyday like it suggests but i do have her watch it a couple times a week.. My thoughts were that it cant hurt.. The whole package is good it comes with flash cards and the videos... She is 9 months now and still turns her head to watch it whenever I put it on... The concept seems good...basic but good.. they use differnt fonts and voices and colors and repeat the same words...

All in all I am very happy that I bought it and even if my daughter is not reading by 18 months I know that in the long run that it will give her a head start... Hope this helps and if you have any more questions just let me know...
