Your Kids' Bedtimes

I'd like to know what time parents with younger kids put their kids to bed (for those who no longer take daytime naps). My son is 4 and between getting him and his 7 year old sister to bed in the evenings (after bath, books, toothbrushing) it often ends up being around 9:00 or a little later. They are generally good sleepers and usually wake up around 7:30 - 8:00 a.m., so i don't think they're sleep deprived, but I know many parents whose kids are in bed by 8:00 or even 7:30. We're just eating dinner around 6:30 or 7:00 so that doesn't seem to work for us time-wise. Dad gets home from work around 6:00 or 6:30. Just wondering how it works in other parents homes.

My girls needed 12-13 hours of sleep from the time they quit napping (at 2.5) til they were 6, so bedtime depended on when they needed to get up. From the ages of 4-6 they went to bed at 6:30 since they had to be up by 6:30 to get ready for school. Now they are 9 (almost 10) and bedtime is between 8 and 9.

My son is 3.5 and I try to have him in bed as close to 7 as possible when he doesn't nap. If he does nap (very rare now) it's about 7:30-8ish... He has to get up at 6:30 most days, so still really NEEDS to nap or have an earlier bedtime, but I'm just doing the best I can here. ;)

We also typically eat dinner anywhere from 4:30-6 (w/ the kids all snacking til it's time to brush teeth).

Our oldest (10yrs) is in bed by 9:00 on school nights and he will always wake up by 6:45, I rarely have to wake him up. Friday nights we are a little more lax and he will stay up until around 10:30 but still be up at 6:45. Saturday nights it is 9:00 again because we get up and go to church Sunday mornings. Our youngest (2 1/2 yrs) is a completely different story. At 4 months he was sleeping through the night going down around 7:30. Now, we are lucky if we can get him to sleep before 10:00. Part of the issue is his 2 hour naps during the week at daycare. During the weekend, without naps he is alseep by 9:00 and up by 7:00. I have been trying easing into an earlier bedtime but he just can't do it. So by the time big bro is in bed we shut the lights out and either watch TV (no cartoons) and/or read books to get him to wind down. We too have a late schedule as I don't often get home from work until after 6:00pm. Good luck and find out what works for your kids.
