So Frustrated

[deleted account] ( 10 moms have responded )

I have recently begun to sell Avon. The start up was inexpensive and initially my friends and neighbors were excited about buying the products. Unfortunately after 2 campaigns, things are slowing down significantly. People can't seem to buy products continuously because of the economy. I purchased extra books and samples this cycle and have been distributing them to neighbors and church members. I even signed up for the webpage. I don't feel comfortable distributing to people I don't know (like the beauty salon or grocery store) because I will have to deliver the products to their homes. Any suggestions on how I can get more clients? Spending more money on brochures and samples, than I'm making! :-P

Put business cards in stores such as salons, post office, facebook, etc. Unfortunately things like Avon and Mary Kay, you will deliver to those you do not know. Things such as Tastefully Simple and Pampered Chef, you may cook in places that you are unfamiliar with. This is part of the direct sale business. With Pampered Chef, it was easier for me because I arrive at the home, cook, place the orders and leave. I may have phone contact with the host after that but I'm done with them after that. The products get shipped directly to the customer and I don't have to worry about it. I may call them to ensure that their order arrived but that's it. If you don't like delivering products to homes, then this may not be the right business adventure for you.

You should get those marketing items out there and take a friend to drop off products and insist on meeting them in the day or at a public place until you really get to know them

i get orders from a private salon and i deliever to there also. I finally broke down and put brochures on doors in neighborhoods. one neighborhood i get at least 2 orders per campaign. AVON is a company were if you want to grow you have to give your brocure out to everyone you see. Otherwise it is hard to gain a customer base. Even if you drop your brochure in carts at stores have your website on the back of it and they can order that way.

List two things ... Christmas specials and a "free stuff" for hostesess ad on Craigslist. I have found Craigslist can garuntee me at least on party a week.

Years ago I did Avon. I was my own best customer. Now right down the street there is an Avon store. Not too great for reps. I am starting a wellness company that has great products for everyone in the family and this is not like Avon because you don't deliver and they give you as a rep awsome deals for High Quality products. I did not have much luck with Avon, so I moved on. If your interested send me a post.

That is great Theresa!! Always remember that building a business takes time and everyone experiences ups and downs. Its a sad fact but 95% of those that try a business fail and its because they give up when things get hard not because the business model doesn't work. With some companies like Avon with so many reps out there and competition, try to find ways that set you apart from everyone else. Try to contact your customers by phone so its more personal, get to know them and build a relationship. Send thank you cards. Reward your best customers with a free product. People do business with those they know and trust and this will set you apart from the rest. You may think about investing in a nice decal for your back glass of your vehicle approx.$50. You are driving around in a free bill board :-). Let us know how you are doing. We wish you lots of success! I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday!!!

Thanks so much for all the great ideas! I left a bunch of brochures at the beauty parlor, nail salon and PTO meeting. I got a ton of orders and a lot of referrals! I think I will give Avon a try a while longer. Thanks again everyone :-)

This may not be what you have in mind but it is definitely worth a look. I am with a company that has just announced that they want to put cash in peoples hands for Christmas. Any new associate could make a lot of money almost instantly.
The company has no product to try and get people to buy and has been in business for over 30 years. Let me know if you want more info.
I cant wait to hear from you and get you started making easy money!
