I have recently started work full time and because of my hours and where i live i have to leave at 6.30 in the morning. This last week my 4 yr old daughter refuses to go to sleep, gets totally hysterical because mummy wont be there when she gets up. any tips on how to make this easier for her? because i cant leave later and getting her up at that time isnt fair to her.

It might help her if that when she wakes up if you are able to give her a good-morning phone call. Or have it the other way around I know my son loves to call people on the phone if this is at all possible. You could leave her a special note that could be read to her when she gets up. Sometimes it is very stressful for kids to adjust to any new routine but it will get better.

I use to leave for work at 7 in the morning, and had to drop the kids off at the daycare mother, therefor I had to wake them up at 6:30 to get them ready in time. Later when they were able to dress themselfs, I woke them up even earlier. For that time they just had to go to bed earlier... It's great the she don't have to wake up and get ready so early, but they are stronger than we think. I would suggest that you tell her that you will wake her up to say goodby, and do it just for a few days, until she realize that it is safe to go to sleep. Maybe sit with her every morning for 5 minutes while she have her morning-milo (or whatever she likes to have when she wakes up). But make it clear to her from the beginning that if she is going to cry when you have to go, you will not wake her up again. She can always go back to sleep, or relax a bit longer after you left... We often tend to think we are unfair towards our kids, but actually we are helping them.
