Alright, my son is 15months now, any ideas on how to cut him off breastfeeding?

My son refused to take a bottle at all so I had to nurse him for a very long time. 12 months to be exact. On his first birthday he got nothing but a sippy cup to drink out of. While it was still breast milk that I had pumped and froze it was not directly from my girls.

I would just try to get him to take a sippy cup. You might have a fight for the first day or two but once he figures out if he wants mommy's milk he will learn that he has to have it out of the cup. then gradually change it to regular milk.

Introduce him to solid food in steps like this...

Let him nurse if he wants, but always offer the BIG KID food as an alternative. Let him know that BIG KID food is all that and oh, OK, if you MUST have some BABY food (Breastmilk) here goes...

Nursing is also bonding time, so do a LOT of hugging and cuddling and tickling without whipping out the Girls. Let him start to associate your chest with hugs instead of mugs (lol). Wear a full coverage padded bra and put scented lotion on the Girls to cut down on the milk scent. Even a fresh shirt before huggle time helps with that.

Feed him Orange juice and cow's milk and breastmilk alternatively in cups, until it only becomes another meal option.

Later on, start making nursing a snack option and offer only BIG KID food as the meal.

The MOST important thing is that, until he stops asking for them, the Breastmilk should be available. Don't worry, it takes only a few weeks of weaning to get him on regular toddler food. In Biblical times, kids didn't get weaned until 4 or 5 years old...
