I have a 4 1/2 month old and I started with textures for her with the baby food. I tried the orange veggies first (sweet potatoes, carrots, squash). My kid likes the sweet taste dunno how this came to be... Hates green beans and the jars that say "beef broth" smell delish but taste AWFUL!!! LOL I started with cereal on month 3 in her breastmilk feeding in the bottle and she loved it. Found out she was allergic to Barley the hard way! Rice seems to be the best for kiddos. Be careful if you are bf though. Food should be given one time a day only just to get them used to the flavors. If you rely too much on food then milk supply will truly go down the hill. Plus baby food is lots of starch with little to no nutrition value especially compared to breast milk. Good luck with all. Follow your little one and your instincts. That will guide you best. ;)

my daughter started food at 4 1/2 months. i made her own baby food, but started her out on rice cereal. her first veggie was green beans, and she loved them. She's six months old this weekend, and her favorite right now is carrots. She's tried several others, mashed potatoes, yams, butternut squash, pears, and broccoli also. No allergies as of yet. Good luck with this, they recommend cereal first.
