Yes thank you just been living with it for past 11 years with my son, know most info but there is always more as we have to pick it up year by year!!!  Most docs and nurses have no idea what we are talking about!!!  It took a second opinion to get decent info and then was told my son could have blood clots to the brain and joints!!!!  with any blow to the head, etc.!  Then now he is nearly 15, 2 years ago was told he could only take paracetamol NOT Ibuprofen or Nurofen!!!!!  (by my mother's GP!) Never ever told that  since diagnosis .  He was 4 years of age and has had 3 consultants!!! (one changed because we moved to be fair) BUT NOT ONE, NOT ONE TOLD me that in all those years!!!!!!

I have heard of it only because of doing extensive research for my husbands blood issues.  He's never been diagnosed with anything yet but he has many symptoms, one of them being a low platelet count.  Is this one of your children?  I do know that it is an autoimmune response and that sometimes certain things can trigger an "episode".  Is or was there any medications being taken?  That's a usual suspect.  When it comes to any blood disorders, only 2% are actually diagnosable...so I guess that's one positive thing.  We've been searching for 8 years, hoping something new is discovered.  I have some great website resources if you are interested.  Hope everything is ok!

Lorraine - ITP Are you referring to talking about a low blood count. It is offically called idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. Idiopathic meaning its' cause is unknown. I think it has something to do with the antibodies against the platelets but not completely sure. All the other blood cells are normal but the number of platelets is low. Most people do not have lots of symptoms but the low platelet count will cause bruising, nose bleeds or blood in the urine. Hope this helps.
