How do you make decisions about having more children? I have an 11 year old son and a 3 year old daughter. I am 34. I would LOVE to have one more, but I work full time and my daughter will be in school in about a year and a half. There is also the thought about stress of a baby, sleepless nights, diapers, extra money for all that babies need, extra Christmas and birthday presents, daycare for at least another 5 years....help?

Angela, I love what you said about a simpler life We are moving to another state in December, so we are sort of starting over...getting away from all the "things" that we have and comparing ourselves. My husband is game, but not until our 3 year old is in school. I think as we get closer to that time, we will be considering it more and more.

Thanks so much for everyone's comments!

I have a 12, 11, 9, 5, and 3yr olds... and in all reality the third was the toughest. Yet if you have the desire you should really go for it. You'll know when you have to draw the line, your heart will tell you. My heart was stretched to capacity at five kids, but I've got plenty of friends that have many more, and doing it into their 40's. Your age doesn't really matter as much as what does your hubby think? You two are in this together! The baby stage goes by SO quickly so don't let that stop you :) cherish it, and rest in the thought that it won't take long. The extra cost just means you can focus on what really matters, and settle for a simplier life for a little while maybe.

I'm wondering about a 3rd baby now too. I have a 6 year old and 1 year old. Both girls. Both healthy and I'm about to turn 33. I know that by 35 your chances of birth defects increase. Am I being greedy thinking about having another child. They are also expensive. But there is nothing like a new baby. I am so greatful to have these 2 wonderful little people to share my life with!

i have a 9 year old son and a 2 year old daughter and a 8 month old daughter. i had several miscarriages between the oldest and the middle. i have always wanted 3 i am 39 i say go for it. you are never to old. most moms i met in the hospital were 42-48 believe it or not my youngest slept thru the night after 3 weeks. i work 6 to midnight monday thru friday and i have all day at home with the kids. no sitters required. i enjoy it you get the socialization of being at work and the enjoyment of the kids at home.
