How old is your baby? Are you breastfeeding? I suggest a couple ounces of pear juice, one with low sugar. Don't give too much though. If she is on solid food, up the fiber a little at a time. cut up a prune (small, small pieces) and let her have sips of water more often. Hope she does better soon, it's hard to hear your baby crying and knowing she's in pain.

Good ideas from everyone! I have given mine apple juice when she's been constipated in the past but that rarely happens any more as she gets fruit every day plus high fiber veggies. We are blessed though as she likes all kinds of fruits and veggies so it's not hard to keep her regular. Apple sauce, apple juice and prune, green beans and other kinds of beans help too. Watch her intake of cheese and dairy products, careful not to over do it. Mine loves yogurt, cheese and milk, which I'm thankful for but those can hurdle into constipation too. Water is also helpful...good luck!

Prune juice! Up to 2 ounces twice a day mixed into a bottle or baby cereal, depending on her age. My daughter gets constipated too and this really helps. Even after it gets better, you might want to consider periodic "doses" just so that it doesn't come back.

my doctor said it might be caused by allergy to cow's milk. especially if she has switched from breast milk to formula.

It sounds that your baby has to much iron which is very common with similac and isomel. If you are feeding her these, stop! Go buy GoodStart, it will solve the problem in about 24 hours. Also switching from breastfeeding to formal can cause this. Either way do the following, lay her on her back, push her legs up like she is squating, she will push back down, let her. Call them baby squats it helps the bowels do their thing plus you can give her strained apricots, prunes, or peaches all known for their help with this. This is just my opinion and what has worked for me with mine.

Try some pureed prunes (stage 1 baby food). It always did the trick for my little guy. He had the constipation problem when we introduced him to solids. Also make sure your little one has enough wet diapers. If not, then maybe increase the fluid intake as too little water can make you become constipated.

Hello Nomfundo, my 2 yr old has the same issues at times, doctor suggested more fiber in her diet. Apple juice also helps.

Hi Nomfundo, check your bubs diet and perhaps load her up on some helpful foods over the next few days. This used to happen to my bub when he wasn't drinking enough water and eating too much bread or teething rusks. I usually give him nothing but pears, prunes, baked beans and kidney beans for a few days and then he doesn't have a problem. Now I just make sure he has these foods every other day to keep him regular (and boy is he regular - up to 6 poops a day is surely enough). If you don't have any luck with changing her diet perhaps a trip to the docs couldn't hurt? Good luck!
