Holiday Care

Childcare was such an issue for me that I dropped down to working part-time on my job so that I could take a second part-time job as the YMCA after school program director as well. Now, during the holidays, I work for the Y, the kids are there, I don't have to pay for it, and I get paid. Plus I know the boys are being well cared for! It's not something that most people are able to do, but that's how I managed it.

I am a working mum. The kids go on holiday soon. If there are no grannies or aunties to help look after the kids, where do you put them? Who looks after them? Is there a neighbourhood babysitting system? What do working mum's do with their kids during holidays when they have to work?

Ah, I wish I had a better answer for you. My girls are in daycare, and I haven't a choice in daycares, they are in the only one that delivers them to their school and picks them up. So, when they are on holiday, they are in daycare and I have to spend the extra $$ for full time care. I'm surprised honestly, with all the discussion around the financial crisis currently in our world, not just the US, and the health care costs, no one is talking about the financial burden of child care costs!
