I would agree with those who say - anyone crying out for help by threatening suicide should be taken seriously and it is my experience that as a mum we have to stamp and shout sometimes to get someone to listen to us and provide the help we need but keep shouting - someone will hear you.  I think she needs a psychologist, my son was diagnosed with depression at 12 and without drugs the psychologist was brilliant and helped him through the tough patch.  I don't doubt we will need her again at some stage but we have had two occasions (one at 5 years and one at 12) where a psychologist has been our saviour.

Good luck, I really hope you get someone who doesn't dismiss her as attention seeking - yes she is but that's no reason to not provide her with help.

I have a 12 yr old daughter who was just recently diagnosed as bipolar.

I was told that these "outburst" were just to seek attention and I should ignore it.  It wasn't until she made a list of reasons why she should die and ways to do it that had my attention!!  If at all possible get a blood test done looking for any off hormone levels.

I agree she does need to see a therapist...maybe not a shrink but a licensed psychologist. My dghter has anger issues and her school and I came up with a psychologist in our area and she goes once a week a talks about whatever is going on....I believe it is helping because her dr just listens and asks questions, doesn't prescribe any medicine but I think it helps plus your insurance will cover it. good luck but get her into treatment as asap!

It could be attention seeking 12 yo are fairly dramatic.  I would recommend getting her into therapy.  She may just need help learning how to cope with whatever is bothering her.

Anyone who threatens to kill themself should be taken seriously.  I would recommend a visit to her physician.  If that doesn't help, then a visit to your local mental health clinic might be warrented.  She is obviously crying out for help.  If you don't get the help she needs continue to seek out others.  Best wishes.

Call your family doctor..call the school...if that doesnt work bring her to the ER...When a child is brought to the ER social services will get involved
