How do I get my almost 4 year old son to poop on the toilet? He's gone potty on it for over 1 year. I tried incentives like stickers and a grab bag - no luck. I tried hiding the pull-ups and he held it for 4 days until he was in pain. Now I started having him give me a toy when he wants to poop in pull-ups. He hands over his favorite toy although he tries to get a fast one by me once in a while.

My son isn't yet 3, but got on fine with potty/toilet training for wees, but similar problem with poos. Bribery works in some cases, but this thing with the toilet could be a kind of phobia. Do you have a smaller seat for him to avoid feeling like he's falling in? Do you give him lots of hugs/comfort while he's on the toilet? My son first went at someone else's house, where we didn't have a potty, so no choice. I praised him loads!! Since then he's done it occasionally at home, although we still use the potty a lot.

I am having the same problem with my daughter - we recently got her a toy she has really been wanting (a piggy bank) - and now she has a poo-poo sheet where she gets a sticker each time she poos on the potty - she has to get five to get her piggy bank - which sits on the counter for her to see everyday - so far she has only one sticker - but seems like it might be working!! good luck

You have to give up the pullups. He will have to go eventually. Give him a lot of fruits and veggies so he has to go, and cant hold it. He's holding out for the pullups.

I have a two year old son, and while I do not think he is quite there to start yet, he just started talking really, I am glad to get some insight on getting him started! THanks all, I really like the sticker and skittles and toy ideas, knowing my stubborn little guy, it will probably take a combination of all ideas. My daughter was soooo much easier, she just sorta started doing it herself!

Well it may seem that he won't poop on the toilet, but it can be done.. I would get up in the mornings and when I went, my son would sit on his training seat. I did this everytime I would go poop... Unless it was the middle of the night. One day he finally pooped in the training seat. When he did, I made such a big deal about it, I called everyone, I praised him over and over again... So the next time he did it, I kept praising and eventually it became routine for him... I eventually transitioned from the pullups to the underwear and before long (a few weeks or so) the pull ups were no longer a part of my shopping.

Leave him without a pamper and when he lets you know he has to poop you sit him on the toilet and you hold him down, he will throw a fit, scream n cry but he will go and once he does he will go all the time It may sound cruel but trust me it will work..

when my son was potty training, i gave him 1 skittle for peeing, 2 skittles for pooping maybe extra reward will help him want to poop in the toilet, also cool toys as a reward instead of skittles.
