I was in your shoes. I am lucky in that I only work three nights a week. I had to sit down with dad and come up with sleep rules. Once we agreed on the rules for sleep we stood together at bed time. When I was home it was the same as when I am not at home with the exception of Saturday night where they get to stay up later...Dad gets Sat night. Once we set a rule that did not vary things began to work. My husband was bad to let them go to bed whenever. I wanted set rules and the two made for stress. The one set of rules works much better... Less stress on all of us

If their dad is the one that normally puts them to bed when you're working, then you should ask him what the routine is.  If you can stick closely to the routine they're used to, then it should go alot more smoothly.  Also, if their dad is available to put them to bed, why not just let him do it?  Maybe you can read them a story or something so that you can be involved, but have him do the bulk of it.  Hope this helps.
